KEY ASPECTS SOMATIC BODYWORK

CLIENT LED: Because we focus on the internal experience and sensations, we follow the “threads” that arise - there is no pre-determined route

MIND-BODY CONNECTION: The aim is to assist in the resolution of emotional distress by addressing the physical patterns, tension, tight fascia asa a result of trauma/anxiety/chronic stress

EMOTIONS CAN ARISE: Often emotions, thoughts, feelings, memories, ways of being might arise - we acknowledge them, hold space for them and we allow that process to be as slow and gentle as it needs to be

Somatic bodywork is a style of massage which is gentle, non invasive. It incorporates therapeutic touch, awareness, the felt sense (internal sensations), movement and breath which helps in the releasing of both physical tension and emotional stress stored in the body. This then helps the nervous system to regulate, brings a deeper awareness of the body and your connection to it - presence. This form of work is especially beneficial when there is trauma, anxiety, deep seated patterns and chronic stress. It can received through the clothing, blankets & directly to the skin, but often, initially, a cover can feel more comfortable - this is all about how the touch is received, so this too is bought into awareness.

My take on this work may be different to others, purely because my experience & therapeutic “tools” may be different. I incorporate embodiment practices, energy reading & clearing, sound, reflexology and somatic “listening” of the tissue.

We all hold our emotional patterning & traumas in different ways, but when the body feels safe enough, and seen enough, without push/force/persuasion, it is way more likely to open up and release. When we have experienced physical and emotional traumas, the last thing the body is asking for is force. It needs to be acknowledged in the gentleness, the softness, the receiving of touch at a level that feels both easeful & meaningful.

If you’ve wanted to work with me but maybe the womb work felt a little bit too out there, you don’t resonate with that work or you are not quite ready for that depth, but you’ve recognised that these tensions run deep in your body and that you’re now understanding how that is creating lack of flow, constriction, numbness or an ability to be a bit more in your body, a bit more in tune and a bit more sensitised to sensations - the PILLARS of embodiment, if you like.
